Ok Im use my Maxtor 250gig ext for store everything. Pics and Movies. Iv already lost it once due to some ass hole not knowing enough to unplug the drive before formatting and it took me months to reclaim what i had lost. Now the drive is ---- up and i cant access half the stuff on there. Are there any good programs that are free or not as pricey as most of the ones you see out there?

What good tests can i run on it after it cleaned out and formatted to make sure its ok to store data on again?

Try and find out if there is another hard disk that you can borrow or you can carry your hard disk to your friend. The present hard disk in which the data is inaccesible is to be made as a slave to the other hard disk, scan all the partitions and the data can be recovered. If you have any kinds of problems doing it then reply. I will be here to help you.
