I have a 40 gig hdd, 2 external storage 160 gig drives.....
The internal hdd contain winxpro-sp2...
One of my externals appears to have a virus as (lately), when I try to change a file name on the external drive, either that drive ceases to be recognized by my computer, or my OS freezes..

Today, my OS froze and now it does not show up under MY COMPUTER...and powerquest partition magic won't open -

Init failed: Error 100
Partition Table is bad.

Okay..so, how do I go about getting back to that other hdd?

Hi, the problem is not serious at all and you may easily resolve it by using Partition Table Doctor.
The evaluation version can be downloaded
This tool also allows you to create a bootable media (CD or floppy disk are both OK) to fix the corrupted Partition Table.

The first thing you should do is to stop putting any new data in in order to avoid data overwriting.
