I have a Seagate Barracuda 80Gb 7200.7 hard drive that crashed on me last month. My IT people tried to pull the data off of it, but were not successful. I had another company try and the same results. The IT people told me they could send it away but it could cost as much as $1,500.00 to get the data. I thought this was a little pricey, but what do I know about that industry. I can tell you that I had the "Blue Screen of Death" when it crashed. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help you send my way!

The IT people are right, you have to send the drive to a specialist.
Secondly experimenting may damage the data present of the disk so better no try anything and get professional help immediately, if you want the data back.

| I am wondering your hard drive might has been suffering physical problem. Find a professional DR company for help. On the other hand, your IT people may also able to fix this if they own data recovery tools |

Run a scan with MHDD and check if data can be read at all.
If so image the drive as soon as you can, if possible image in reverse.
If the drive is no longer displayed on BIOS or any other problem arrises you will need to post a terminal log.
If data is critical go to a data recovery house near you. |

I am Sr. Engieer of International Data Care Dubai, well experienced in Data recovery. Even if your HDD not get detected in BIOS; the data can be recovered with resonable price $250 to $500.
We do have all the expertise to retrieve data from all sorts of storage crashes. But keep in mind that not all attempts give succesful results in data recovery industry.. |

Hello Jim,
I agree with other guys.
I would not suggest playing with your hard drive on your own at home. If you know what you're doing.. then no problem.
Try to send your hard drive to a data recovery company in your area. Ask fist, if they charge there is also diagnostic fee included or excluded in a total price (sometimes it is important).
Let us know, if you have any other questions.

Regards,
Mark

As "blue screen" is staded i guess you are on the realm of "logic recovery". If drive is detected on BIOS and no clicking you can try something like connecting your drive as a slave to a working computer and use restorer2000 pro or get data back and see if you manage to access your data and copy it to another place.
Seagate drives are very prone to head damage, if clicking is present head stack replacement must be done on a clean room so data can be accessed again.
If you have electronic hability you can build rs-232 / TMOS terminal adaptor (or buy one) to further diagnose your problem. If "Head Mask" or HM is constantly displayed on terminal log heads are gone and must be replaced. |
