i have a 2tb WD hard drive that was plugged into my belkin usb network hub and it crashed and i have lost a file on it called everything off mac. it is formatted for mac and windows us fat 32.

I have tried repair disk in the disk utility and it says 1.98 free of 2tb but then says 16gb used? this is the amount roughly of the file that has deleted!

anyone any ideas how i can get it back as it had all my years teaching on it !

Thanks

Hi,

First thing to do is don't experiment on the drive from which you want to recover data. You may overwrite it etc.

Get another2 Tb drive and clone the drive using any software which does sector by sector cloning so incase you damage one drive data, then you have other drive which is mirror of first drive and has all the data.

The next thing is recovery. For that you can use the cloned drive.

IF you are looking for any specific file types like .doc, you can use any good raw recovery software. In raw recovery, the file system is not considered, software looks for file header and get files.

Otherwise if you are looking for Mac paritions look for any software which support HFS file system recovery.

Hope you get your data back.

Vicky
