In your case the photo might be lost due to the files being overwritten, so it is advised not to used the disk any more. Take the drive out, plug it with some other computer and use it as slave drive.
Download Geeksnerds Windows Data Recovery and scan the drive using advance scan, look for you files in path-unkown folder, hope that you will find the photo there, if they are there.
Alternatively you can try Geeksnerds Photo Recovery Software, it will scan all the drive, and show the thumbnail of the photos found, you can click on the thumbnail to view photos, so you don't have to recover all the photos, ony look for photos you want.
The software are cost effective as well, one is for 39 Euro and other is for 29 Euro.
Hope that you get your photos.

I'm not sure I'm able to do it. Can I connect the two computers with a USB cable?

You can use external USB docking station, if you have any.
If you don't have that, you can connect it using IDE or SATA channel. |
