Hi there. I recently ( 5/12/09 ) restored my system by backing up what I could onto an external hard drive, but apparently the stupid thing forgot to transfer my sister's pictures. Of course, I forgot to check the stupid thing to make sure it did just that. ( 1st mistake ).

So after I popped in the restore CD, Windows Vista made a folder called Windows.old that had a backup of everything from my old installation. Of course, since I thought I had everything backed up, I used the disk cleanup tool to get rid of the folder BEFORE I dumped everything from my external hard drive onto my computer ( 2nd mistake )

Finally, I wanted to tweak with the system restore feature so that instead of saving the restore files from drive C: onto drive C:, it would save them onto drive D:. So I thought I could do that by unchecking the box for drive C:, and checking the one for drive D:. Now it's saving data to drive D:, but I have no idea if it's the data that I needed. More importantly, I don't know what the computer did with the restore point that was created at the beginning of the install. ( 3rd, and probably the stupidest mistake! )

It is now 5/14/09, and I didn't know the files were missing until last night when my sister couldn't find her pictures. Give it to me straight... Am I screwed? I've been looking everywhere for a data recovery software that would allow me to just recover the pictures and the other stuff my sister had, and I feel so guilty that I didn't take more care when I backed up our files. If there is anything that you guys can think of, please help, otherwise I am about five minutes away from calling data doctors. Thanks! Below is some other info about my computer.

Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1
eMachines T5088
