Hi guys, this is round two with a clunking hard drive. I couldn't even get it to successfully create an image. This forum saved my ARSE last time, and was hoping for some direction with this issue.

**EDIT** When trying to create an image with FTK, it fails with the error "block index out of bounds" Crying or Very sad

OK, this appears to be an intermittent issue with the FTK error message. FTK has started acquiring the image, but it's stuck at the "Preparing to create image" stage. Confused After the hard drive makes the noise, it spins down. Anyone have any suggestions on what can be done to keep it spinning?

What brand of drive? What type, size etc? "Clunking" is not a good sign when your trying to do software based recovery. I would speculate there is an issue with the System Area firmware. I would also speculate there is a possibility of head(s) bad or going bad, and you may not be able to simply image the drive.
