Hi
If the drive has crashed then immediately you must consider a professional data recovery software. NucleusTechnologies.com products are the best in this regard.. you must try their demo version and that too for free...
thnx

Believe it or not, I opened it up, sprayed some compressed air on the heads and sure enough: IT FIRED UP!

| I am suffering the same symptoms. I was using my Inspiron 9300 one night, It worked completely fine and I properly shut it down. I went to start up the next day and I got an error right away stating something along the lines of an unbootable volume. It doesn't click or anything and I can hear the hard drive motor spinning. I have been using an IDE to USB dock to try and extract my important files. The computers I've tried it on take a while for the partitions to be recognized, I'm talking many minutes. Then I can access the smaller of the two partions but when I try to access the larger partion the computer goes of into never, never land. My hard drive is a 60GB seagate. Next to what was mentioned in an above post about opening it up and blowing compressed air on the heads, what can I do? Thanks! |

Hi This is a common problem in Toshiba HDD. This is a semi-physical issue and there are good chances of your data getting recovered. You can contact your local data recovery center in your city or can contact us at hrcmumbai
I have a hard drive that crashed in a Toshiba Satellite and I'm trying to determine the problem and how to fix it.
I'm 90% sure it's not mechanical. When plugged via USB external enclosure the disk fires up and does the normal "buzzzz" and the drive letters will show in My Computer. However, when I double-click the drive letter, it locks up the computer and I get the hour glass. It does that for about 5 minutes before telling me the drive is inaccessible.
So I took the drive to my faithful Macbook and plugged it in USB. The drive did not show up on the Desktop, nor was it listed in Disk Utility. However, a nifty little program I have called Data Rescue II. I opened that and after 4 minutes, it recognized the drive. (about 5x longer than normal). The quick scan found nothing so I'm doing the thorough scan and it says 52 hours remaining!
1. What could possibly be wrong with this drive?
2. How do I fix it?
|

So, to update, I was able to access all of my data by making a bootable CD that ran a program on my laptop that I believe was called Parted Majic. I'm sure that any linux based bootable would have worked but I'm not that familiar and haven't tried it. I am able to access my hard drive via IDE to USB adapter and push it over to a portable hard drive via USB. I haven't been able to get it to recognize a hard drive in the actual HD dock but I might have needed to have it in when I started the bootable CD. Long story short, I now have my data and it didn't cost me a penny!
To find the bootable CD that I used, search UBCD "Ultimate Bootable CD". Make sure to download Hashsum to make sure the check sum of the iso you download matches the one provided on the UBCD web page. I made about 4 bad CDs before doing this. If you need help with the check sum, there is a wiki page link right on the UBCD webpage. Good luck! |
