"My hard drive is making a clicking sound. It started recently and seems to be getting more frequent. Sometimes I hear a repeated click-whir sound and then the computer locks up. Does this mean my hard drive is going bad?" How to overcome this problems.

First what make of HDD is it?
If it is clicking it could be that the heads are dying or it could be a problem with the PCB, it really depends on the make.

Hi!

When there is a clicking sound with the drive, it means there is some mechanical fault with the drive. Don’t try to open your hard drive, as this may further damage the device and lead to a permanent data loss situation.

You need to contact a professional data recovery service, they will crack open your damaged hard drive in a clean room and recover your data.

Yes Jacob you are right. Clicking sounds only result in due to some mechanical fault. It may arise while head is reading some of the bad sectors on hard disk. It may also the reason that some dust particles are present on hard disk platters which do not let hard disk to read and write the data. Head put extra exertion so to continue process.

Only best solution is to take your hard disk drive to some professional data recovery company. Optimum Data Recovery, Inc. is the best option.
Toll free number is 0800 580 4959.

If your hard disk is making a clinching sound. Do not allow it to grind to a hault before you take action. Quickly backup your data. Before you replace get a professional to take a look and try to repair with relevant software it may be that it is affected by electrical surge. Ensure you always use a stabilizer and a UPS to stabilize the current. Also use a very good antivirus.

Suggest you beackup the data from that clicking hard drive as soon as possible. Then check the clicking hard drives to know the reason and repair the hard drive.

Just my advice, hope it can give you little help.

- Knowledge of data recovery, hdd repair, computer forensic and so on.
