|
|
Yesterday morning I woke up to find my link to my game development program did not work. I checked the target of the shortcuts, and the files were - quite simply - gone.
I have no idea how this could have happened. I considered that I accidentally moved the files without realising it, but I did a full search of my system and could not find the files or the programs. I also thought I could have accidentally deleted it while cleaning up my system - I ran a deep scan using the Piriform Recuva utility. Impressively, a lot of deleted files showed up... except the ones I was looking for.
Oddly, when I select all the files on my hard drive, the amount of data comes to just under 30Gb. The total used space on the hard drive is 53Gb, so there are 23Gb of data unaccounted for... which is about the amount that I'm missing. So I'm confident that the files are still there - somewhere - but I can't find a way to restore them.
According to my add/remove programs menu, , the program is still installed, so I did not uninstall it.
I have some backups on disc, but reverting to them would represent a great deal of progress lost. I would deeply appreciate any help!
Thank you!

The missing data i.e. 13 GB, it could be space used by windows, like pagefile.
What I would advice you is that you better not use this drive as OS drive anymore..
Secondly, you should clone this drive onto to another healthy drive using a programs having sector to sector cloning. Then try and experiment recovery on the clone. If your data is precious better not experiment on that drive.
Use any good recovery program to scan the drive for data, some programs show the size of lost file as well as show thumbnails of lost data. Verify the size of data and try to recover it.
But whatever you do, do use the drive from which you have lost data as there is probability that you may overwrite on the data to be recovered and lose it altogether.
