I'm trying to recover data from a 2.5" 60gb Hitachi Travelstar
and have it attached to my desktop via a external usb enclosure, but when I have it attached (usb'd) and try to run a boot disk the computer completely freezes.
Can anybody tell the best way to recover data from a drive this bad???

Try cloning your Hitachi drive onto another drive, may be this will help. Then try recovery from the cloned drive.
