Hello..

It is: Fujitsu MHV2080BH

Basically, drive spins up normally, heads trying to calibrate, but after a while drive just spins, and there is no further movement of heads.

Does anyone know how to fix firmware (I think that's the issue) on Fujitsu laptop HDD or any suggestions how to fix it to see the hard drive in BIOS?

Thank you.

I would not attempt anything if I were you, updating firmware can cause other problems. Give some more info if you have any.

The boot sequence of a drive is as follows:

1. Power on chip returns status
2. Self check
3. Spindle spin up
4. Un-mounting heads from rack
5. Servo timing reads - firmware
6. SA reading - firmware
7. Firmware extensions reading

This may give you an idea of where the problem is occuring but it could just be a nasty SA (system area).

See if you can image the drive, if your lucky enough to get an image you can forget the drive all together.

All in all it's a long list of possible problems, probably more than we can help you with via a thread and the small amount of info you have supplied.

Good luck!!!

PS, this is your second drive question in a short amount of time, last time you said it was for your mother...are you an IT guy disguising yourself as a data recvovery guy Smile

Hello DataHero

Well.. last time was my mum's HDD indeed.
Still looking for parts (good working drive for heads-change), no luck so far. As I said, I will update you, when something copes up Smile

What would you like to know about the Fujitsu HDD?
For me, the hard drive is 'busy'... .

Im IT, we also have a data recovery department.
They got PC3000, and I think I can use it.. but first I need to know, how to check / fix firmware.. . Any suggestions, what should I click, like step by step guide, just to check, and not to make it worse than is.

Thank you.

Also.. how can I make the hard drive to be detected?
If hard drive is detected I have no problem with making an image / clone.

I know, that we only sollution is to use PC3000.. but to be honest, I don't know it much.. On Fujitsu I cannot use a different PCB, am I right?

Thank you for any help.
