Im sorry if this question has been answered already but I have a 1.5tb WD external HD that has decided to become RAW and I cant access the drive until its formatted. There is nothing physically wrong with the drive but i need to get the data off of it before i format it.
I have been using Recover my data which is a good program and recovers the files with the original names and folders (which is what i need) but its taking a very long time. In about 35 hours it scanned 300million blocks out of 2.9billion (then someone decided to turn of the computer...FFS!). with that speed it will take about 10 days to scan the drive and there is no option in the software to pause and save the scan.
What i wanted to ask, is this a normal amount of time to scan a 1.5tb drive (it is now out of its case and plugged internally into a sata plug) and is there any software that can scan a drive much faster than this or save and resume a scan so i can do it in blocks but still keep the original file names and locations?
Thanks alot for your help.

You can try Geeksnerds Windows Data Recovery....test it in demo mode.

Thanks for that.
It does scan much faster than recover my files but its organizing the files into corresponding file types. Is there a way to set it to organize them into their original order?
Thanks for your help |

In any given data recovery case, there are two types of scans.
1. Looks for your partition
2. Looks for data in your paritition.
First Run scan for parition, point out your partition. Recovery software usually don't show letter (c, d or e etc.), you can judge your partition by size and file system.
Then comes the scan for data, there are 4 types of scan in the software for data. Normal scan, Advance, Formatted and Deleted scan.
These are different types you can use to scan for recovery of data.
The one in which files are sorted by file type is Raw scan, in which software looks for file header without considering file system. So you need to Run partition scan first, then try normal scan which I hope will work for you. If not you can try other scan types.
So get your partition first, you can get help from software help incase of any problem.
Hope you get your data back. |

Hi everyone thanks for your input
I tried recover my data again. it was scanning for four days and my mother for no reason decided to turn off the computer!! i dont understand why it has to take 10days to scan but its the only program i can find that seems to do anything! every other program just seems to stuff me around, give me weird results or stupidly put the files in order of their file type.
I did a partition scan using geeknerds windows data recovery and then tried to do all of the find data scans, i click ok and it doesnt seem to do anything. there is never any scan and comes up with no results! the find data icon then changes to recover and when i click that it does absolutely nothing?
I dont understand how such a simple thing can be this complicated! any help will be appreciated. I just need the data recovered and in their original folders!
Thanks |

Try using the Geeksnerds program by using administrator account.
Go to the location where you installed the software.
Right Click on the software icon in installation folder, Select Run as Administrator. |
