I use HFC 4.0 and I have experienced somewhat of a disaster. I recently opened the program to enter more data and to my utter astonishment, the file is completely blank. There is no data whatsoever. Five years of data is gone. The file name is still there and the program opens the data file, as I have it set to do so when I execute the program, but all of the data is gone. No records of any kind. Even the custom background is gone. The program works fine, but the "filename.hfc" file with all of my data is blank. It is as if the file has been deleted and replaced with a blank file of the same name. If a virus were responsible for this would'nt the file just be gone? It isn’t gone, it’s just blank. I have never seen anything like this before. I last checked the file on 2/17/2010 around noon. I don't know if it is pertinent, but the PC records show that it was modified several hours later at a time when I was not using my computer.
System restore is not an option. I disabled it long ago, as viruses use it as a means of “survival.” File recovery programs are of no use since a blank "hfc" file under the same name is still present. I use AntiVir, AdAware, Comodo Firewall, and a few other programs to keep my PC secure.
File recovery programs do not show a deleted .hfc file since a blank one still exists under the same name. Is there any way to recover this lost data? Please help.
Sincerely,
SLM
