Hey,

I'm having a lot of trouble trying to recover some data from an external drive that seems to be corrupt. I've tried a number of data recovery programs, and nothing seems to be working.

My OS is XP with SP2. The external drive I'm trying to recover is an 80GB Maxtor drive that's about 3 years old.

The drive was originally formatted in FAT. One day it crashed, and now in Windows explorer it tells me that the drive is formatted in RAW with 0 bytes free and 0 bytes used. It also doesn't do anything when I try to do error checking from the properties menu. The drive only even becomes visible in explorer after I click on the "Safely remove hardware" icon in my tray.

When running chkdsk on the drive I got the error message "cannot open the volume for direct access." I've tried a couple of data recovery programs with the results below. Each option returns with not being able to view the disk or not being able to read it.

Rescue Soft Data Recovery PC: Couldn't find drive
EasyRecovery Professional Trial: Couldn't find the drive (even when it was set to do a RAW Recovery)
EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard: This could actually see that I had the drive attached, but then told me I had 0 KB worth of 0 files on it.

Is there any hope left for recovering this data, or is it too far gone? If there's anything I can do, please let me know.

Thanks.

Try using some other raw recovery software, it will help you and I am sure it will work.
