I am trying to recover data from a laptop drive. The machine it was in will not start up even with a windows bootable cd. I have taken the drive out and put it in a case that allows it to connect via USB to another laptop. I have successfully recovered the second partition (DSmile and most of the first partition (CSmile. I cannot access folders or files within the Documents and Settings folder under the heading "oldmatt". I can open "oldmatt" and see the contents but cannot copy, move, rename etc any of the files or folders within. The error message reports the Access is denied.

Can anyone suggest something that will help please? I looked at but have not tried GetDataBack but it does not mention USB connected drives.
